The Long, Long Winter

After we visited Uncle Ezra and Aunt Marie we drove to De Smet, SD, one of the communities where Laura Ingalls Wilder lived.  Volunteers put on a pageant 3 weekends in July every year based on one of the books that cover her life in that vicinity.  The pageant covers a different book each year - I'm not sure how many books cover De Smet.

This picture isn't the best but it shows the homeplace in the background.

I don't know why my smile looks so goofy, I guess I was concentrating, but the rest of the family looks pretty good.

Getting ready for the pageant

Chad put Jolene's name in a list of volunteers not knowing what she would be asked to do.  He figured she would enjoy taking part.  I think she felt silly in the end playing games like that in front of everyone but she had a good time.

The girls dancing with the white flags were representative of the blizzards.
