Welcome to Plattners Discover the West!

There were many opinions on what to use as a title for our trip blog.  Some thought Discover didn't fit because we aren't discovering anything new but someone argued that Science museums have Discovery Zones and you aren't discovering anything new there.  So that settled it.  Plattners Discover the West sounds like a pretty neat title!

Some of you may be wondering why we are even starting a new blog.  Well...  I didn't like the idea of broadcasting to everyone that we are leaving home for 3 weeks.  So we chose to start a new blog and just notify a few people about it till after we get home, then it won't matter who see's it.

We've been talking about doing some big trips for awhile and we finally moved forward with one of them.  If all goes well, perhaps next year Plattners Will Explore the East!  :)

Chad has been watching for a motorhome for months and found one back in February of this year.  It sleeps 10 so there is room for everyone, though not much!

We didn't take a group picture before we left so I am posting a picture from March.  I could take one now but it just seemed more fitting to have a picture from home in the first post.

Packing the motor home proved to be quite the chore and we didn't make the deadline for when we had hoped to leave by but we still left earlier than when we HAD to leave by.

Our goal was July 8, late evening.  Our departure was July 9, 12:30 AM.

We didn't go far for the first night.  Just an hour, as Chad said "just far enough away that we couldn't decide to pack anything else"!  :)  We spent our first night parked at Walmart in Galesburg, IL.  Jesse drove that first hour with me riding shotgun.  Everyone else was fast asleep.  Chad woke up in good time and we were on our way again when I awoke.

The first week was a great week.  We had quite a few late nights and hit the ground running each morning.  I've finally gotten the pictures organized and hope to catch up on the past week before we forget anything important.

Stay tuned...
